A big feature of this week has been taking time to reflect on how far the class have come in such a short space of time. They have taken on so much new information and mastered so many new approaches to their learning that it is hard to believe this is only our fourth week together.
In Literacy, we have been planning our first extended piece of writing – a nerve-jangling narrative set on a stormy sea and involving an elusive humpback whale. To help bring the plans to life, we swapped the classroom for the playground and recounted the stories using the volume and tone of our voices to emphasise the growing tension. It was great to see the class showing off all they have learned and doing so with such confidence and pride. I can’t wait to read their finished pieces next week.
This year, each class has been using the Zones of Regulation program to help our pupils recognise, understand and regulate the wide range of emotions they experience throughout the day. During one of our focus lessons this week, we enjoyed a game of Zones Bingo where the class had to check off images of facial expressions linked to their description. We found that some emotions were easy to spot, whilst others can be more subtle and can easily be interpreted differently. The class combined a mature discussion with fast paced dabbing and frantic yelling of ‘BINGO!’
Finally, I couldn’t let a class blog go by without taking the opportunity to celebrate our first ever TTRS trophy winner, Rose. The battle was intense and the winning score of 3008 correct answers deserves some serious recognition! The trophy is up for grabs again each Friday and could very well be taking pride of place on your own mantlepiece soon…
