As part of our English focus this week, Year 4 have been channelling their inner news reporter, practicing interviewing eye-witnesses and writing witness reports about a mysterious sea creature spotted just off the local coast. We’ve looked at how to build reported clauses using a range of vocabulary and had great fun racing against the clock to look up words using a thesaurus. We then joined these reported clauses to direct speech, making sure all the correct punctuation was used in the right place. It’s a tricky concept with lots of rules to remember, but they’ve produced some wonderful bits of writing.
Miss Wilson set the class an extra art challenge where they had to consider Spirituality in Nature and consider what natural locations bring them the most joy. They then used a range of colours and textures to recreate their scene in the form of a collage. The classroom was a blur of activity and the floor was a rainbow of paper cuttings but the quality of their work was superb and Miss Wilson couldn’t be happier with the results.
In Science this week, we moved on from humans and began looking at animals. The focus for this week’s lesson was recognising the importance of food chains as well as building our own food chains based on a variety of different environments. It was fantastic to see just how much the class had remembered from previous years and how well they could apply this to the work in their books.
Well done Year 4, you’ve smashed it again!
